Over 150 people turned up a public meeting held in Misson last Thursday 18th February on the odour emissions that continue to plague the area and come from Tunnel Tech Mushroom Farm.
The meeting was organised by local MP, John Mann where the villagers who attended the meeting voiced their anger and frustration at Bassetlaw District Council for their failure to take legal enforcement action against the farm and its overwhelming odour emissions.
People spoke of how their summers have been ruined by the smell, the breathing difficulties that many of them experience and the loss in value to their properties.
The smell is created by the processing system used to manufacture the material that mushrooms are grown in. Chicken faeces is a significant component of this and the processing method means that an unpredicted intervals extremely noxious ammonia smelling fumes are emitted which can be blown over Misson, Everton, Bawtry and at times as far away as Harworth and Bircotes.
John Mann said "this was a very angry meeting. No one could understand why the Council have not taken action to sort this very serious problem out. People were fed up and unprepared to accept any more excuses. There was an overwhelming demand for the Council to use its legal enforcement powers to close the mushroom farm down".
The meeting unanimously agreed that one more meeting should be organised with Bassetlaw Council to see if it could be persuaded to take action. If this failed then they will come together again to consider legal action against the Council.
