Summer School 2009 gets of the Terrific Start

Bassetlaw Citizenship Summer School 2009Forty students from Bassetlaw will be taking a unique opportunity to meet Speaker Bercow, Lord Speaker Baroness Hayman, veterans' Minister Kevan Jones MP, Head of the British Bankers Association Angela Knight CBE, be working with the Princes' Foundation, the Holocaust Educational Trust, the FA, Premier League, Football Foundation, Touring London Guildhall, BBC Television Centre, Kings Place, the Houses of Parliament, and doing much more besides.

The five day extravaganza forms John Mann MP's Bassetlaw Citizenship Summer School, where forty of the brightest and best sixteen year olds from his area come to London to learn about... pretty much everything.

The school started last Friday with a visit to EDF's West Burton Power Station, in John's constituency.

"It's a packed week, I know the students have been looking forward to it as much as I have" said Mann, who is running the school for the third year.

"There's nothing like this anywhere else in the country-it's a unique experience that allows Bassetlaw students to raise their game for themselves and the area."

You can follow the school, which is paid for by sponsorship from EDF Energy, Hull Trains and A4e, on John Mann's website at www.johnmannmp.com/summer_school.

Next Saturday Mann will also be bringing 600 Bassetlaw residents to London for the first ever Parliamentary Open Day.
