This week the Keep Britain Tidy Group launches its document, ‘This is our home'. It sets out challenges for the next decade to help clean up and green up England. They say that whilst there has been progress in the past 20 years, far too many of our streets, towns and rural areas still continue to be blighted by litter. - British Job for British Workers: MP Attempts to Force Legal Guarantees through Parliament
On Tuesday John Mann MP presented a Ten-Minute Rule Bill on the Commons floor seeking legal guarantees that major public works contract holders employ British workers. John Mann is pushing the Bill in response to contractors who have employed cheap agency foreign workers who undercut the salary costs of UK-based workers. - Villagers Voice Anger at Mushroom Farm Meeting
Over 150 people turned up a public meeting held in Misson last Thursday 18th February on the odour emissions that continue to plague the area and come from Tunnel Tech Mushroom Farm. - A620 50mph Speed Limit Reduction Welcomed by MP
Notts County Council have today announced 50mph speed limit on the A620 (from Clarborough Hill to North of Bole Corner) will come into force on Monday 19th April 2010. This was called for by North and South Wheatley residents in September 2009 when MP, John Mann and local Councillor, Hugh Burton jointly organised a public meeting on speeding traffic on this busy stretch of road. Bassetlaw District Council have announced this week that they are planning to freeze Council Tax rises for the next three years. This answers the questions of where the Tesco money has gone and why we have the delay on the building of the cinema by the Council. Today Sir Ian Kennedy has confirmed his desire to implement Sir Christopher Kelly's Standards in Public Life Committee recommendation that capital gains should be clawed back. Over 400 MPs are known to have legitimately bought property using Parliamentary monies, including the three party leaders. John Mann joined forces with Independent Councillor, Hugh Burton to campaign against Bassetlaw District Council's proposal to cut the Bulky Refuse Collection, when they presented the results of their consultation exercises on Monday at Retford Town Hall. - Litter Eyesore in Worksop Centre
John Mann MP is appealing for witnesses of the fly tipping that took place on the canal in the centre of Worksop this week. The MP hopes that a witness could help identify the culprit, in order for them to be prosecuted. The rubbish itself was dumped in the canal at the back of the Priory Car Park. A poll last night, Thursday 21st January of residents living in Worksop, Carlton, Blyth, Langold, Oldcotes, Welbeck has revealed that they are overwhelmingly opposed to Notts County Council's proposals to cut, privatise and price hike services for the elderly and vulnerable. The Coldstream Guards today marched through Bassetlaw as part of an event to mark the 350th anniversary of a similar march from Coldstream to London. John was onhand to welcome them to Worksop. Following representations to the Home Office and the presentation of a Parliamentary Motion by John Mann MP, the radical Islamist Group Islam4UK has been banned under anti-terrorism laws. Islam4UK is the current front for known terrorist group Al-Muhajiroun - the organisation joins Al-Ghurabbaa and the saved sect on the list of banned organisations from Thursday. Help for Hero's charity walkers Luke Hewgill and Christopher Maule completed their 22 mile yomp through the snow yesterday (Sunday 10 January) arriving at Retford War memorial just after 3pm. The two lad's walked from Doncaster to Retford each carrying a full British Army field kit weighing 55lbs (24kgs) to help raise money for the Help for Heroes Charity.
