Dear Mr Walker
Repayment of Expenses
On detailed analysis of my own claims I have noticed an error in my claims for telephones.
Specifically I have wrongly claimed for a PDA through the Additional Costs Allowance. The entire amount claimed was a properly spent and an eligible expenses claim, but they should have gone through the IEP budget heading. I had not read the Green Book carefully enough before reallocating these expenses to the ACA, beginning with the bill for the purchase of the PDA in January 2005.
In other years I have claimed for a mobile phone correctly though the Incidental Expenses Provision, but beginning in January 2005 when I purchased the PDA until December 2007 when I cancelled this contract, I claimed the costs of this in error through the wrong budget heading.
In today's climate MPs must be seen to leave no ambiguities or room for doubt.
I therefore enclose a cheque for £2395.02, which is the total claimed for telephones during my time as MP through the ACA and apologise for this mistake and any additional work that it creates for your Department.
Yours Sincerely
John Mann
