John Mann demands level playing field for UK workers

John Mann, Member of Parliament for Bassetlaw, today criticised the Government's reaction to the foreign workers fiasco in a House of Commons motion.

In Early Day Motion 652, Mann demands that the Government level the playing field and accept conditions of the European Posted Working Directive that means employers have to provide the same benefits and wages to foreign workers as British ones.

This would take away the incentive for employing cheaper, foreign labour, and would mean all workers would be safer and better provided for.

Mr Mann's motion also calls on the Government to investigate accommodation and travel charges levied on foreign workers by sub-contractors, and whether these deductions from foreign worker's pay packets are being used to subsidise cheap labour.

John Mann commented "The vast majority of British workers are skilled and dedicated. We don't need to discriminate against anyone, we just need a level playing field."
