Bassetlaw MP has welcomed Northern Rail’s news that it is introducing 60 additional carriages to help ease overcrowding on their busiest services. Ten of these carriages are already in service and the remaining 50 will come into use on Monday 12 December.
On the Retford to Sheffield route, they are increasing the number of seats on three peak time services (one train in the morning and two in the afternoon/early evening). This will result in over 300 extra seats on this route every weekday.
John Mann said “this is long waited good news for people who have to travel by train to Sheffield on a regular basis. The daily misery of overcrowding and lack of capacity has been regular complaint by residents who have to squeeze into a train to get to work and back again. This is not just a value for money issue, it has also been a health and safety concern for travellers especially in the hot summer months. This is a great Christmas gift for our Sheffield commuters!”
