John Mann MP Raises Concerns Over Miners Action Group

A member of the public from the North East has contacted John Mann MP seeking his views regarding a mailshot that he had recently received from a newly formed claims handling organisation called Miners Action Group.

He contacted John Mann, who is the Member of Parliament for Bassetlaw because the letter included a quote from John when he was raising concerns about the under-settlement of miners compensation claims.

John Mann reacted with anger to the letter because the quote was used without his permission and gives the reader the wrong impression that he is endorsing the work of The Miners Action Group.

Records show that The Miners Action Group was incorporated on 11 March 2010, but their marketing letter states that they are already "fighting to support thousands of miners".

Commenting on the situation John Mann "I have fought against solicitors and claim handling companies who have made huge profits totalling millions of pounds on the back of the miners health compensation scheme. Alongside this there are big concerns on the under-settlement of miners compensation claims and whilst there is action that can be taken, its shocking that this is yet again being seen as another opportunity to make money out of an unacceptable situation that many sick miners, their widows and their families have found themselves in.

I do not endorse the Miners Action Group and I am appalled at the shoddy way that they are trying to use my name to promote and legitimise themselves."

John added "Let this be a health warning to the mining community. If you have concerns about the deduction of fees deducted or you believe that a miners claim was under-settled, contact your MP who should be able to advise you on how to get your money at no cost to yourself".

John Mann has written to the Miners Action Group and requested that they stop using his name in their marketing material and he has also made a complaint to the Claims Management Regulator.
