Following representations to the Home Office and the presentation of a Parliamentary Motion by John Mann MP, the radical Islamist Group Islam4UK has been banned under anti-terrorism laws.
Islam4UK is the current front for known terrorist group Al-Muhajiroun - the organisation joins Al-Ghurabbaa and the saved sect on the list of banned organisations from Thursday. Membership of any of these groups is now a criminal offence and would result in up to 10 years in jail.
The Islam4UK group had stated their intention to march through the Wiltshire town of Wootton Bassett carrying 500 empty coffins in memory of those Muslims that had died as a result of the Afghanistan conflict. This was one in a string of events the group were behind. The march was subsequently cancelled by the group.
John's motion (EDM 532), notes that 'Islam4UK' was not representative of Muslims in the UK and that mainstream Muslim organisations have condemned the group and the proposed march.
John Mann said: "I am pleased that the Home Office have responded so quickly and decisively to my call for action. These groups exploit our democracy for their own sadistic gain and have rightly lost their freedom to operate."
