Your Police Service:   In addition to the loss of over 50 front line police jobs in the North of the County,  Nottinghamshire Police are dealing with Government cuts by closing the police cells in Worksop.

From October 2011 all suspects taken into custody by Police in the Bassetlaw Area will be taken to Mansfield Police Station. If these cells are full they will go to Newark, leaving the nine police cells in Worksop empty.

Local police officers are saying that this change will simply take police off the streets because every arrest will require police officers to accompany the prisoner on the drive to Mansfield.

QUESTION 1

Do you agree with the reduction in front line police officers in Bassetlaw in order to cut costs?  YES/NO

QUESTION 2

Do you agree with the closure of the Worksop police cells?   YES/NO

Your Fire Service: The Chief Fire Officer says that they are called to 35% fewer emergencies than 10 years ago. In response to government cuts he is proposing a range of cutbacks. This includes closing some retained fire sections.

He states ‘ we are confident that sufficient cover can be provided in other ways, not least because a whole time crew will remain based at that location and cover will be available from neighbouring crews’.

Retford overnight fulltime service will disappear if this is agreed.

Retford fire fighters say that the service is vital, providing cover overnight to a huge area, including Retford and two power stations.

QUESTION 3

Do you agree with the proposal to remove the full time overnight fire service from Retford?      YES/NO

Hospital Emergency Services:  The Ambulance Service is also required to bring forward proposals for cuts and this includes the option of closing ambulance stations.
