Most children describe school holidays as their time to “have fun and play”. However there are a group of dedicated young people who are spending today outside Bassetlaw Hospital dressed as skeletons to promote their fears over the proposals to shift A&E resources and the Children’s Ward to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Ten year old Kyra Mumby from Retford has written the poem below which perfectly expresses their concerns and worries:
Think of Me
Think of Me when you take away our A&E Think of Me when I hurt my knee Think of Me when I am alone in Doncaster with a broken bone Think of Me when I am all Alone because Mum’s had no choice And had to go home
The children are screaming and crying everywhere Our Children’s Ward has gone but you don’t care I am sat miles and miles away from home I am scared and frightened, I am in pain because of my broken bone
The answer is simple for me you see Please keep our services from Children to A&E It’s where we were born and want it to stay Please, Please consider me I’d say
I have been to Bassetlaw and to stop in I can’t understand why you want to put it in the bin It has saved my sisters and saved Me Save our Hospital and stop drinking tea
I am Kyra I am only ten years old By the time I’m 20 it will all be sold Please Please doctors think and join in We are all Set out to Win
