Bassetlaw District Council have announced this week that they are planning to freeze Council Tax rises for the next three years.
This answers the questions of where the Tesco money has gone and why we have the delay on the building of the cinema by the Council.
John Mann commented on the proposal saying "the Council have little to be proud of, the people of Worksop are paying for this through the continued delays on the building of the new cinema. With the £8m million still missing in Iceland, its clear that the money from Tesco is being used as an attempted election bribe. Its no coincidence that the cinema is being delayed with the excuse of looking for a new site for exactly the same number of years that the Tesco money is being used to subsidise Council Tax.
There is a huge hole in the middle of Bassetlaw finances as they have failed to get the £8 million back from Iceland. This is a desperate attempt to shore up a deeply unpopular Council and we will all pay for it heavily in a few years time".
