The 1000 jobs and new football and sports stadium proposal is going to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate. Bassetlaw Council will now spend your money trying to block this appeal. You however can back the appeal for free. I have organised a Facebook campaign petition that anyone can sign up to. The petition is available on facebook here. You are all able to join and if you don't use Facebook, you will know a child or grandchild who does. This is the easy way in this bad weather to collect support for the campaign, which has one aim: give us the jobs and the sports stadium.

Another astonishing decision by our council is a refusal to back Priory Church in its funding bids for its regeneration project. This is despite Prince Charles and English Heritage helping directly. The council always thinks it knows best. It puts £8 million of your money into Iceland, nor Britain and loses it. It refuses to allow new jobs. It delays your cinema despite grabbing £12 million from Tesco. Now it even refuses to back its prestige historic church.

Council leader Quigley told the planning committee that the new jobs at Vesuvius were ‘only' supermarket jobs. Wrong, there are 40 industrial units, bringing manufacturing and high technology opportunities for entrepreneurs. But what is wrong with supermarket jobs anyway?

A job is a job. My father-in-law left the RAF and spent 20 years working in a supermarket. Not real jobs Mr Quigley says. How dare he. Compared with who? Bankers? Politicians like him and me? Council boss Quigley had at least five different jobs paid for by you: as a Bassetlaw councillor; Council cabinet; county councillor; health authority; police authority. So why is he blocking your right to one job?

This council believes it has all the wisdom. It is replacing decent loyal staff with private contractors. It refuses to back its church, its football team, its young people and its population. It is as if Joe Stalin is alive and kicking and running our council.
