Next Tuesday sees the four day public inquiry into the Vesuvius 1,000 job planning application, where the Council will spend your money trying to stop these jobs and the land for a football stadium. Meanwhile, the Council has this week stopped free swimming just as the school holidays begin. It is a strange priority that these people set.
Council Leader Quigley knows about charging people though as he is party to the decision to charge town centre residents £25 per car to park outside their own home each year. Like me, Quigley has off street parking and he even has a garage. Why should we both have free parking whilst others are press-ganged into paying for the privilege? Again council priorities are quite peculiar and certainly not mine.
Market traders have not been consulted about the new cinema location - which is not what I had previously understood. Why not? These people earn their livelihood from the market and have done so for generations through a Royal Charter. It is totally out of order not to fully consult them and ensure that they gain from any change. Any new market needs to be near the Priory Centre end of Town, where Woolworths once proudly stood or along Ryton Street. Anything else would be a scandal.
Lee Westwood has been outlining his Ryder Cup ambitions and I hope he is successful. It would be great to see Lee win a major soon, as I am sure he will. Wouldn't it be wonderful if our golfing tradition could one day result in us hosting the Ryder Cup?
I have found a clamping company operating in our area without any obvious permission. The matter has been referred to the police as I am particularly suspicious of the insistence on cash payments. All the shops who have been impacted by this have not contracted the clamping company and have no knowledge of anyone doing so. If you have been clamped recently in Retford then please let me know (contact details here).
I understand that my evidence to the Vesuvius inquiry will be on Thursday at 10am at the Town Hall. Everyone knows my views. Please let me know here if you want me to represent your views at the inquiry. I will also be ensuring that the petition that so many people have signed is handed over to the inspector and the inquiry at Worksop town hall is open to the public. |
