John Mann in the Worksop Guardian: 22 January 2010

I got my way on more police for the North of Nottinghamshire, with the commitment for 84 more to be deployed in this area. On Tuesday I met the police leadership along with other MPs when I made clear that a failure to deal with anti-social behaviour is top of my list. I have also made the Prime Minister very aware of my concerns. Whatever it takes and whatever interventions are required, I will leave no stone unturned in getting more police numbers to tackle the thugs and the bullies.

I have also been tackling the bankers again and I am one of only a tiny number of MPs to propose the Barack Obama extra tax for the UK banks. The taxpayer bailed them out, yet the American dominated banks continue to pay themselves grotesque bonuses. I will be presenting a Bill to Parliament to get this money back through a tax on bankers greed.

Thank you for the magnificent turnout on the 1,000 jobs and new sports and football stadium meeting last Friday. This campaign is getting much bigger with petitions across the town this week. Any workplace or shop without a copy can get hold of them from my office. I am also holding an unprecedented telephone ballot on this issue and the disgraceful attack on our care homes.

The deadline on the consultation over the care homes, contact points, meals on wheels and other council cuts is this Friday- last minute protests are possible through my website, here, so get them in!

I found out on the grapevine that the Coldstream Guards were marching through Doncaster last weekend and then discovered that Worksop was on their route to London. They were to be met at the Town Hall, but I was not invited nor given details of this very special event.

Having contacted the Ministry of Defence I managed at the very last minute to arrange to welcome them as they entered Worksop and publicise their march through the town on my Facebook site. It is a shame that the Council event was not publicised or local people invited to give them a warm welcome.
