The 999 emergency services ballot is underway today. You should soon receive a ballot paper which I encourage you to return as soon as possible.

There are more streets that need delivering and to volunteer ring me on 01909 506200 or email me at mannj@parliament.uk.

It is time that the General Public have their say and whatever your views I hope that you will participate. The chiefs of police, fire and hospital all say that they will listen to the view of the general public, so here is your chance.

I have spoken very recently with those on the front line of our 999 services and they are all horrified at what is happening. Without exception local emergency service workers are saying that these cuts will put public safety at risk, and I am not prepared to stand by and watch this happen.

The police are immediately claiming that there are no reductions in front line policing, but my figures from official police sources have been quantified. The facts are that there are far less front line police officers on the streets of Bassetlaw than there were last year or the year before.

Of course the same police chiefs claiming there are no cuts are the same ones who took a bonus for making so many cuts so quickly. They told me that we need not worry as there would be less crime in Bassetlaw in the future!

We can all see the greasy pole that those who pretend there are no cuts can climb. Just this week Northern Ireland police chief Hugh Orde was denied the top job in the Met in London because he pointed out what cutting police numbers would mean.

I am currently recruiting a part time caseworker to work for two days a week in my Worksop office. Anyone with relevant skills can contact me if they wish to apply for the job - it is lively but rewarding work.
