John Mann in the Worksop Guardian: 12 March 2010

Well done to the residents in and around Gladstone Street for raising the issue of residents parking. I disagree with the use of our money to pursue court action against people given a parking ticket for parking outside their own home. It is wrong for politicians living with the security of garages and drives to persecute residents living in the centre of Worksop and issue tickets to people who are parking outside their own front door. Where we have terraced housing this is of course a real problem.

I have proposed a simple residents parking zone to the Council, which they agree is sensible. Council Officers agreed the importance of this when visiting key areas including around Newcastle Avenue, Sherwood Street, Church Walk and Sandy Lane The Council is also rightly agreeing with me that they should be spending time and effort setting up these schemes- which are cheap and easy- rather than persecuting motorists who are parking outside their homes.

Keep Britain Tidy have re-launched their campaign and I back it. We have too much litter on our streets and I particularly hate dog mess which is spoiling our streets and sports pitches. There are far too few dog bins and too few prosecutions. For all off us this is quite disgusting, but for children it is also a serious health risk.

My Bill for British Jobs for British Workers, which would require contractors to use local job centres and to employ apprentices and maintain skills training has been well received within the industry. The Bill is scheduled to have a second reading in Parliament this week, although I am advised that it might be talked out by other Bills, including the Marriage (Wales) Bill and the Sun beds Bill put forward by other MPs.

I called last week on the BBC for two members of the House of Lords to pay their full British taxes or resign from Parliament. I do not see how you can vote for British Laws and not pay British taxes. I am pleased to report that one of the two, Lord Paul has announced that he is now to pay British taxes. I trust that the other, Lord Ashcroft will do likewise.
